[Chapter-delegates] Nov. 21 chapter-delegates list cutoff -- movingWSIS discussion to another list?

Gene's suggestion is a good one. I agree that policy discussions should
move to the memberpubpol mailing list. I would like to clarify the purpose
of the mailing lists Gene mentions.

The chapter delegates mail list has always been intended as a place where
ISOC staff and Chapter officers can discuss chapter issues, initiatives and
so on. It is not meant for anything else. The intent of the list is that
those who are permitted to post (i.e. chapter delegates, staff and board)
limit their remarks to those items.

Gene's suggestion that all discussion not relating to chapter officers
(expanded as indicated in the preceding paragraph) be moved to
isoc-members-discuss at elists.isoc.org or memberpubpol at elists.isoc.org is a
good one and as it should be.

With respect to WSIS and internet governance they are certainly policy
related matters that one would suppose should take place at the memberpubpol
list. These lists are ones which people subscribe to with certain
expectations and those who have subscribed to memberpubpol expect to discuss
WSIS and its aftermath among other policy related topics. So while those who
subscribe to the Members Discussion list can raise whatever they want, if
they expect to reach the correct public policy group I would suggest they
continue to write to the MemberPubPol list.

Best regards

Subject: [Chapter-delegates] Nov. 21 chapter-delegates list cutoff --
movingWSIS discussion to another list?

This, the chapter-delegates at elists.isoc.org list has become the
primary vehicle for ISOC chapter discussion.

Regrettably, that leaves out many ISOC members, including many
people who their chapter officers have not elected to invite to
join the chapter-delegates list.

With the new membership system starting up (see email from
Nelson Sanchez below) it is likely that a number of people will
be dropped from the chapter-delegates list. Not good.

I propose that all discussion not relating to chapter officers
be moved from this list to the
isoc-members-discuss at elists.isoc.org or
memberpubpol at elists.isoc.org list.

WSIS and internet governance issues are such a fundamental part
of ISOC that I propose those discussions live on the
isoc-members-discuss list.

What do others think? Can we reach an IETF-Tao consensus?
