Dear Vint,

Dear Bob,

On behalf of Egypt Chapter of the Internet Society, it's my pleasure to congratulate you on a well deserved award.

It is with your efforts that everyone is enjoying the Internet today.

I would like to specially thank you for all the help and support you have been providing to developing nations. I personally was a student of ISOC's earliest Networking Technology Workshops that helped so many of us to introduce and develop the Internet in our own countries.

Please accept my warm regards and those of the whole Internet community in Egypt.

On behalf of ISOC-EG

Tarek Kamel

Minister of Communications and Information Technology

Egypt

الموضوع: [chapter-delegates] Urgent reminder - send your email congratulations for Cerf and Kahn

Urgent reminder - Please send us your chapter's email
congratulations for Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn as soon as
possible to info at dcisoc.org, please also copy to
cerf-kahn at gainesgroup.com.

I have not been able to contact a number of ISOC chapters.
Please check that your chapter has sent an email for the
event, assuming you wish to do so. All are welcome to
send an email, for your chapter or as an individual.

Thanks. Gene Gaines

Details below.

A number of ISOC Chapters are coming together to honor Vint
Cerf and Bob Kahn on the occasion of their winning the important
ACM Turing Award.

Both men are members of our local Washington DC ISOC Chapter,
so our Chapter has volunteered to host the event.

It will take place the evening of Tuesday, May 10, 2005 from
7:00 - 9:30 p.m. Eastern US time (11:00 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. UMT).

The meeting announcement is below.

I am inviting your Chapter to participate in the evening.

1) We hope that your Chapter will be able to send us an email
that we can present to Vint and Bob during the evening --
to be one of many chapters that will be sending good wishes,
congratulations, and possibly to thank them for all the work
they have contributed to ISOC and to ISOC Chapters in many
  countries.

We expect to print and bind these emails, and give copies to
Vint and Bob to remember the evening.

If you are able to send such an email, please let me know
that you plan to do so. Just hit REPLY and tell me your
intentions, and email your message in the next 24 hours to:
info at dcisoc.org, please also copy cerf-kahn at gainesgroup.com.

2) If you are interested, we can set up a freeze-frame video,
instant messaging or voice connection for you to come in
during the meeting and give your greetings to Vint and Bob
live over the Internet, as a number of chapters plan to do.

Please let me know if you wish to arrange this, just a REPLY
to this email will do, and I then will contact you.

Sorry for such short notice. This is the only date that we can
arrange in the next several months that both Vint and Bob can
attend.

The announcement we sent out for the evening is below.

Please participate. We see this as a good step in ISOC Chapters
becoming more active, learning more about each other, and in
cooperating together to mutual benefit.

A Washington DC Appreciation Evening for Vint Cerf & Bob Kahn

Date: Tuesday, May 10, 2005, 7 - 9:30 p.m.
Where: Booz Allen World Headquarters, McLean, Virginia
Host: DCISOC - Washington DC Chapter of the Internet Society

Our own Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf, as you probably know, have been
named winners of the Association for Computing Machinery's annual
Turing Award.

The ACM (www.acm.org) is recognized as the premier organization
for computing professionals, and its Turing Award has honored
the computer scientists and engineers who created the systems
and underlying theoretical foundations that have propelled the
information technology industry.

The Turing Award will be presented at the ACM Awards Banquet in
San Francisco, in June.

We're proud of this further recognition for the pioneering
efforts of Vint and Bob. Since we all can't get to the ACM
meeting in San Francisco, the chapter will hold a meeting to
express our gratitude for everything Bob and Vint have done,
not just for the industry but for ISOC as well.

The evening will start with a social hour, with time to say
hello to Vint and Bob. Several speakers (including Dennis
Doughty, President, Booz-Allen-Hamilton Worldwide Technology
Business) will touch briefly on the differences the Internet
has brought to the world. Internet pioneer Steve Crocker will
ask Bob and Vint to share their thoughts, looking back on
three decades of remarkable change and to the future.

We will have available replica copies of historical (Internet)
documents which Vint and Bob may be so kind as to autograph for
us.

During the evening, leaders of ISOC chapters around the world
will be joining the meeting via the Internet to congratulate
Vint and Bob, and thank the two for their key roles in the start
and growth of the Internet, as well as in creating ISOC.

To attend, please R.S.V.P. to info at dcisoc.org. We need to give
Booz Allen a count of the expected number of attendees, as they
graciously will be providing refreshments.

Date: May 10th (Tuesday)
Time: 7:00-9:30 p.m.
Place: Booz-Allen-Hamilton
           Allen Building - Conference Center
           8283 Greensboro Drive
           McLean, VA 22102
           Telephone: 1 (703) 902-5000
