Hello Tony,
Thanks so much for the warm words of encouragement. We hope that through our
exchange we can begin to delineate chapter initiatives of the type that will
lead to new levels of cooperation and concrete mutual work. We will work out
the logistics related to ISOCPR's participation in the DTF'05 conference but
be assured that we will do everything possible to be present virtually
through the means available to us through the University of Puerto Rico's
Internet2 HPCL facility. We need to know more about these developments since
the creation of I2 is of vital strategic interest to the development and
expansion of our next generation converged ip infrastructure in Puerto Rico.

We will consider it an honor to have our document distributed among the
leaders of ISOC in Australia. We would like you to consider the
establishment of bilateral relations that can lead to rich and meaningful
exchanges between our two chapters and our two countries. We dream of our
children in the public schools speaking through videoconference facilities
to children in the school system in Australia. Wouldn't this be a wonderful
way to start our work together!!!

My heart is in the Internet Clubs Initiative which will lead to the
formation of an island wide organization for Internet youth throughout the
island. We will start the Clubs this year in several schools we have
identified with the support of key University of Puerto Rico, Department of
Education directors and district teachers. The Internet Society will serve
as a mentorship and technology resource channel for the clubs. We are
constructing a virtual community portal and will enlist the local internet
community to volunteer and provide support to the endeavors and activities
of the individual clubs.

Through our State of the Internet in Puerto Rico Market Study conducted in
2003 we identified an increase of youth Internet activity focused on chat
and entertainment. We have begun to identify a sizeable group of highly
talented students who form a virtual underground who do amazing things on
the net. We wish to direct them towards community service and peer to peer
learning activities. Sort of a combined leadership model with an Internet
focus.

Perhaps we could set up an exchange of this nature in the near future and
begin to bring together excellent people with a commitment to make a
difference with the future leaders of the Internet, our children.

I look forward to identifying specific things we can do together. I speak
for the local chapter members that such a focused effort between us will be
warmly received by us all.

Wishing you and the Australian leadership great success,

Ramón Morales
Chairman
Internet Society of Puerto Rico

Hi Ramon

Many thanks for forwarding a copy of your Agenda 2005 document. You say
that you are new to ISOC and willing to learn, which is always a good
approach, but I think your document already looks very advanced and
comprehensive.

I hope you won't mind if I share your document with other ISOC-AU directors.
We also have a strategic planning session coming up in the near future and
it provides us with a useful outside perspective from another ISOC chapter.

By the way, I see that there is an Access Grid point in Puerto Rico listed
on the access grid site. If you or your ISOC chapter members have time we
would love you to drop by and look at our DTF'05 event. You would need to
make contact with this University representative and seek permission.

Thanks Tony,
I will share with you and the chapter delegates the Agenda 2005 Plan from
the Internet Society of Puerto Rico which encompasses the work of ISOCPR for
this year. We are strongly committed and vested in carrying forth the ISOC
vision and mission in every sector of Puerto Rican Society.

We are in the midst of transforming our web presence which will have
announcements and news of chapter activities and developments around the
world. Please feel free to send any news or statements for posting on our
site to me or to eduardo.diaz at isocpr.org . We look to ISOC Mexico for
inspiration and Alejandro Pisanty has done a great job there.

We are new to ISOC and wish to learn from your experience so that we are
able to serve the people of Puerto Rico and connect the island to the world
internet community.

Warmest regards,
Ramon Morales
Chairman

DESIGNING THE FUTURE 2005 - ULTRA-BROADBAND AND THE INTERNET

DTF'05, in Sydney on Wednesday 6 April 2005, will focus on the
implications of massive Internet bandwidth for business, medicine,
education, communities and the IT industry.

For a brochure, program details and online registration, see:
http://www.isoc-au.org.au/DTF05/

This forum will bring you highlights of the evolving global Internet -
not blue sky research, but imminent developments going mainstream: we
pack into one day what most other conferences attempt in three.

Our speakers have a vast range of experience exploring massive
bandwidth in the real world, from remote diagnostics to black holes,
from new networks to entertainment and hyperculture.

Some of the topics covered:
The future in Asian telecommunications
Canada's next generation network
The Last Mile Arms Race
Pulsars in 3D virtual reality
Critical medical services for remote locations
Avoiding new networking bottlenecks
What happens after we're all connected?

This is no simple talk-fest - it will *show* you just what's on the
way. We are broadcasting everything over the Internet with the Access
Grid ("video conferencing on steroids"), presenting a live concert with
a difference - musicians in far-apart cities playing together - an
Australian first!

Event fees include lunch, refreshments and after-event drinks (inc GST):
$180 ISOC-AU Individual members
$250 Staff/members/students of ISOC-AU Sponsors, Foundation and
     Enterprise members, and Associated organisations
$275 Full fee
