Dear all,

I would like to add a detail to the debate about the issue of monetary
limitations regarding the price tag of becoming a 75$ member...

A previous mail on this list mentioned that it was mainly 3rd world
countries that would be excluded from such a price. But this is not
necessarily the case (or at least not limited to them).

First, consider the currency conversion rate. It is very exceptional that
CDN$ is @ about 80¢ USD. For the longest time, it was more like 60¢. That
means for 75$, CDN would have been 125$. For many developed countries,
that's not fiction, but reality.

Second, think about Youth. Right now, in Quebec, the student population is
stuck with a student loan program that means when you've finished your
studies, you can have 40,000.00$ to pay back to the bank. And you don't have
a job yet.

Think of single parents, think of the majority of people in Qc. (80%) that
have a yearly income of 24,000.00$ (that's (at current rate) 19,856.13 USD).
This is not fiction, this is not South Africa: this is right here in Canada.

Regards,

Eric Alloi
