Chair
2005 Internet Society (ISOC) Election Results
On behalf of the entire Elections Committee, I would like to thank all of the
candidates who stood for election to the Internet Society Board of Trustees for
terms 2005-2008 and who contributed to the Candidates Forum, thereby
substantially exposing their views for the voters as well as for ISOC members
generally. Similarly, I want to thank the voters in the election and their
efforts to cast thoughtful ballots.
There were three selection processes underway during the last few months.
For the election of Trustees by Organization Members, 77 members were eligible
to vote, and we received 37 ballots. The percentage of organizational members
participating was slightly less than last year. No ballots were spoiled or were
otherwise invalid. Two positions are to be filled. After a complete count,
factoring in membership-level weighting, the results are:
Daniel Karrenberg 92 votes
Glenn Ricart 64 votes
Accordingly, Daniel Karrenberg and Glenn Ricart are declared elected to the
Internet Society Board of Trustees for 3-year terms.
For the election of Trustees by Chapters, 76 chapters were eligible to vote,
and we received 44 ballots. Chapter participation in voting was higher than
last year. No ballots were spoiled or were otherwise invalid. One position is
to be filled. After a complete count, the results are:
Veni Markowski 27 votes
Accordingly, Veni Markowski is declared elected to the Internet Society Board of
Trustees for a 3-year term.
As part of ISOC's election process, one member of the Board is named by the
IETF, through selection by the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) and
confirmation by the IESG. We are pleased to be able to announce that Fred Baker
will be returning for a new three year term on the Internet Society Board of
Trustees.
As chair of the Elections Committee, I would like to congratulate the new
trustees and thank all of the candidates for their participation in the process.
I hope that all candidates, elected or not, will find ways to make contributions
to the Internet Society.
Formal ratification of the election results is dependent on the outcome of the
challenge period. Challenges must be received no later than 2100 GMT on July
17, 2005. Challenges may be raised by an official representative of an
Organization Member, a Chapter representative, a Candidate, a Trustee or by a
member of the Nominations or Elections Committees. Replies to any challenges are
due no later than August 2, 2005.
George Sadowsky
Chair, Election Committee
