Alan, let's not look for what divides, but for what unites.
Everyone has said enough. However, what Gene said this morning (thank
you, Gene!) makes a lot of sense. While may be ISOC HQ would not
agree that there are two different approaches towards the WSIS/WGIG,
I think that's the key to the solution. We must find a way to combine
these two approaches, and make sure that they do not compete each
other, but rather support each other. They are like the legs of a
person - we must have both of them. Chapters and org members are the
legs of ISOC. Remove one, and the whole construction will fall. Move
one too far ahead, and same will happen.
I suggest we put the history behind us, and look forward for the next
few months, when we'll need every chapter's voice for the WSIS/WGIG.
I'd ask ISOC HQ (therefore, CC Fred and Lynn) to allocate funding for
support of such activities. It can be allocated from the Internet
Assistance Corps. But this has to be one united effort, and I hope
that ISOC HQ understands that it's vital to have both technical and
political sides together. That is, if we all care about the future of
the Internet.
best,
Veni
