Alejandro,
What? Your statement above makes no sense to me.
So you condemn Veni Markovsky (during the last days of an
election).
Your problem is you are not listening to him.
(Perhaps you did not receive Veni's last several emails?)
He has been been making a number of clear and specific points.
True, he has not crafted yet another public policy statement.
That is not what is needed.
Let me try to bridge the gap between you and Veni in a
constructive manner. Of course, this is my view.
ISOC and IETF will not change the direction and outcome of the
WGIG process or WSIS by making policy statements.
Policy statements by China, the U.S., perhaps the African
alliance, etc., may change the outcome. But simple policy
statements by a representative of ISOC or IETF will not, however
well crafted.
Veni is pleading for ISOC to take more of an active leadership
position, to increase its activities, to increase communication
between its members and its chapters. Also to listen and to
communicate.
This takes focus and commitment on the part of its management --
in this case the ISOC Board. But is not happening, or happening
way too slowly to be effective.
What continues to be missing is communication and sharing.
Making a policy statement is not sharing.
Alejandro, with respect, this is not to say you are wrong, but
rather to say you and Veni are approaching the WSIS/WGIG problem
from two different directions.
I support Veni because he consistently has been the clearest
voice on the ISOC Board for more participation and more
effective communication between ISOC and its chapters, and ISOC
and the world.
That voice is so badly needed!
I hope that you and Veni will listen more carefully to each
other.
