Dear Chapter Delegates:

We have had a few MMM meetings and list mailings recently where we asked
for, and received, some comments about the draft Strategic Operating Plan.
As we near the end of the process of putting this plan in place we want to
ask a few questions in the pursuit of correctly stating the relationship of
ISOC and its chapters. Please reply to this list. Also note that on July
12th Andreu Vea is having another MMM discussion and we would be happy to
receive comments there as well. - watch for Andreu's announcement. There may
be a second MMM on the same subject but at a different time to allow wider
global participation - again see Andreu's message when it comes.

1.	ISOC's current draft of its new Strategic Operating Plan may be seen
at: http://www.isoc.org/isoc/chapters/sop3.pdf. Section 6.3 says the
following about Chapters: "The role of chapters within the Internet Society
is both to locally and regionally amplify our efforts to achieve our mission
and to infuse ISOC with local and regional perspectives on developments and
issues that could affect the evolution of the Internet. The chapter
relationship is therefore very much a "two-way street"-chapters are
effective local and regional agents of our mission, and also an important
source of the information that informs that mission. Like its members,
Internet Society chapters are therefore partners that participate in the
pursuit of our mission, rather than constituencies we serve." (E-mail
note: This is not the entirety of Section 6.3 and there are other portions
of the SOP that refer to Chapters).

Do you feel this statement from Section 6.3 is correct? Do you have
comments?

2.	How do you feel the Chapters and ISOC can better support each other
in pursuit of ISOC's mission and goals (specifically relating to Education,
Policy and Standards)?

3.	The Project Funding initiative just concluded its first round of
applications and awards (http://www.isoc.org/isoc/chapters/projects/). Do
you feel this initiative is an appropriate avenue of support from ISOC to
chapters and members?
