there are quite some industry groups. I believe Mr.
Ershad Chowdhury infact represents one of the
association- the ISP Association of Bangladesh. There
are also the Computer and Software industry
associations. the ISOC Bangladesh chapter would have
been a good choice, but unfortunately it is almost
non-existent in it's presence/activities in
Bangladesh. Mr. Hakikur Rahman's organization
Sustainable Development Networking Project 'could' be
a good alternative .bd operator [as they are also
behind the BD Internet Exchange - BDIX] and they have
good technical/operational background. But this would
need broad consensus and unprecedented cooperation
between all the industry players. There is already
another Internet Exchange promoted by another group.
It is anybody's guess what good two Internet Exchanges
would do for Bangladesh! Anyway BTTB [the incumbent
.bd operator and monopoly telco in landphone sector]
is supposed to be made into a public corporation at
which time the whole internet and telecom regulatory
approach in the country should hopefully be modified
into a more market (and more importantly Consumer)
friendly way. And as you mentioned the future
development in the arena [Enum, SIP, WI-Fi Phones,
VoIP] etc. would force new thinking anyway.
Hoping for a better Info-Communication future for
Bangladesh!!
