Hola Rosa,
I have not heard anything from those chapters in the countries affected. I
thought that a message in ISOC's homepage perhaps a banner the way Apple and
Yahoo have done would be a good start. We can be directing people to give
money via the different agencies that have the infrastructure in place to do
so. As ISOC, we can show our solidarity by carrying this unified message on
our chapter sites and supporting existing efforts as a start until we get
feedback and guidance from the chapters in those countries most affected.
My web design team prepared a banner and we met this morning to coordinate
efforts with others in Puerto Rico.
Warmest regards
Ramón

Hola Ramon,
Thanks for your proposal. I wish we can do something to help in this
devastation but I suppose we need to co-ordinate with local chapters
(Thailand, Indonesia and India-New Delhi).
Btw, the UN Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs UNOCHA which is the
international entity for co-ordination in case of natural disasters.
Perhaps we can get some info from their website
(http://www.un.org/apps/news/infocusRel.asp?infocusID=102&Body=tsunami&B
ody1=)
In the past I worked with UN, managing the UN Emergency Newtork for
natural disasters I know how important is the establishment of
communications with zones where all the infrastructure has been
devastated like in some parts of Indonesia or India or others. Sometimes
e-mail via satellite links were the only link to communicate with these
areas.
Can we could support local chapters in this area? Or somethingelse which
is most need it?
Regs/Rosa

Chapter Delegates and Officers:
The tragic events in Asia have inspired a worldwide effort to help the
people of that region. What can we do at ISOC to support these efforts?
Are the chapters in this region operational? Can we get guidance from
them as to how we can help? Can we mobilize an organized effort through
our websites? Perhaps have ISOCs home page contain a headline
statement from Lynn and/or the Board.
We in Puerto Rico sent a message via the Digital Divide Network. We
would want to link up to a coordinated effort from ISOC through its
chapters.
Veni, Pat and Rosa what do you think?
