Regional chapter organization -- was Re: [chapter-delegates] more on the budget

Following with interest all the discussion.

ISOC had in the past a speakers bureau with a list of speakers available
to chapters and press. Moreover, most trustees - I believe - do contact
chapters when they visit some countries but in an informal way.
Therefore, I do welcome Gene's idea in order to formalize such a bureau
once again.

In the past I visited some chapters and it was a wonderful experience as
every chapter is different in views and interests. As chair of the
developing countries interest group of the Geneva chapter my great
interest were developing countries chapters so we have invited speakers
from developing areas in Geneva when they attended UN meetings but also
help to sponsor some of them.

Therefore, I would suggest to clearly specify areas of interest for
speakers apart for a short resume

But, I would like to complement this idea with events. There are at
least two international events that I am aware that some ISOC chapters
are co-sponsoring that so far deserve to be shared with all but I am
sure there are more. I refer to the Internet Fiesta in Colombia (Mar or
Apr? 2005) and the Swiss IPv6 Summit to be held in September 2005 at
CERN supported by the Geneva Chapter

Best wishes in 2005 for all !

Rosa

more on the budget

All,

What can I do to make a positive contribution to ISOC chapters?

A thought. Would it be useful if I spent some time organizing an
informal speakers bureau -- that is, enlist interesting people in
visiting ISOC chapter meetings and perhaps speaking at chapter meetings
when they visit other countries, when they have time and their schedule
permits?

I expect that a great number of ISOC- or IETF-related people travel to
other cities, countries and it never occurs to them to think about local
ISOC chapters.

If they were reminded of local chapters, I expect they would
be very pleased to meet and speak with local ISOC members.

Comments?
