Dear Chapter Delegates:
In the continuing effort to find ways to communicate more effectively, we
would like to start organizing and co-hosting Chapter meetings at events
where the ISOC Chapter staff personnel will be present. And that brings up
Paris, this coming summer from July 31st to August 6th.
Paris will be the site of the 63rd IETF meeting, to be hosted by France
Telecom. It runs from Sunday July 31st to Friday August 5th. Both Jim Galvin
and I plan to be in attendance and I also expect Lynn St.Amour to be there.
The ISOC trustees will be there later in the week for the ISOC Board meeting
to run from Friday at 1pm until 6pm on Saturday, August 6th.
We are asking from those who could attend such a chapter meeting several
questions:
1. When would you prefer such a meeting - before the IETF (for example
on Saturday or Sunday July 30th or 31st) or after the IETF and ISOC Board
meeting (for example Sunday August 7th)? It is quite difficult if not
impossible to conduct such a meeting during the IETF or the ISOC Board
meeting times. We could be there on the following Monday as well (August
8th).
2. Would any chapter be interested in co-hosting this event with us? We
will fund the refreshments but would look to a co-host to help locate a
venue and otherwise help us arrange this.
This is, we recognize, a less than optimal time to convene such a meeting
given that many will be away on holiday. But it is a time and place where a
significant number of senior ISOC personnel and Board members will be
present and so we want to see if we cannot arrange this get together. Much
will depend on feedback and likely attendance. If there is another venue in
the general area that would be more suitable for chapters then Jim and I
could arrange to come there although I am not sure others, such as Board
members, would be able to join us.
Let us know and thank you for thinking it over.
