<div class="">Hi Joly, hi all, </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Chapters are indeed legally independent organizations (registered as such in the country where they’re located) bringing together invididual members of the Internet Society within their geographical scope. Chapters are chartered by the Internet
Society via the signature of the <a href="https://www.internetsociety.org/chapters/start/application/chapter-charter/" class="">Chapter Charter Agreement</a> </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are groups of individual members of the Internet Society from all around the world who are interested in working together on a given Internet related topic. These topics are chosen by our members every two years.
SIGs are groups of ISOC members working together without needing a legal registration. As pointed out by Joly, the current arrangement is that staff handles most of the administrative aspects related to running the SIGs (<a href="https://www.internetsociety.org/sigs/" class="">including
their web presence</a>) so that our volunteer community can focus on the SIGs’ content work. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Standing Groups (SG) are similiar to the SIGs, but are more permanent in time. Their focus is on accessibility, gender and yout. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">The current SIG & SG setup is the outcome of the work of a SIG working group constituted by Internet Society members some years ago. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Chapters, SIGs and SGs can be joined via the Community Portal (AMS):
<a href="http://community.internetsociety.org" class="">community.internetsociety.org</a> </div>
<div class="">Once logged in, click on “Chapters” and/or “SIGs” in the page menu at the top. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">We’ll share the link to the current SIG and SG Guidelines here asap - looks like this document may have fallen between the cracks during the recent system transition. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">With regards to the documentation of the first two year SIGs, is there any documentation in particular that you are looking for? </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">There is no need for SIGs to set up their own website since landing pages are available to them here
<a href="https://www.internetsociety.org/sigs/" class="">https://www.internetsociety.org/sigs/</a> Please reach out to
<a href="mailto:sig-support@isoc.org" class="">sig-support@isoc.org</a> to discuss any needs for updates on these pages. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">We will also get back to you on the question about the listserv - are you looking for a way to reach all current SIG and SG leaders?</div>

I don't have a lot of answers but I believe IPNSIG (Interplanetary chapter)<br class="">
set up its own web site. The chapters have independent existence from ISOC,<br class="">
by requirement. They can raise their own funds, have a bank account distinct<br class="">
from ISOC, etc. <br class="">

When the new SIG / Standing Group structure was set up at the start of<br class="">
2022, there were a set of guidelines posted on MemberNova.<br class="">
This document is no longer available, but IIRC, defined a principle<br class="">
that ISOC staff would handle 'administration' roles, to leave<br class="">
volunteers unencumbered by such mundanity as documentation, web<br class="">
presence, finances, so that they could dedicate themselves to actual<br class="">
projects. I found this quote:<br class="">
<br class="">
Processes and protocols for archiving and accessing<br class="">
publicly available resources such as web content,<br class="">
listservs and social media accounts will be developed as<br class="">
part of the roll out plan for the new SIG structure. The<br class="">
emphasis will be to ensure public assets and work done by<br class="">
SIGs is available and can inform future efforts while<br class="">
maintaining connections and community that has been<br class="">
developed<br class="">
So, no websites for Groups outside of ISOC, to ensure continuity as<br class="">
teams change every two years.<br class="">
Eventually landing pages for the SIGS/SGs were set up<br class="">
at https://www.internetsociety.org/sigs/ however, in terms of<br class="">
documentation these are limited to a few focus areas and current Group<br class="">
leaderships, and there was a wait for Fonteva.<br class="">
Most groups responded by setting up chat groups on Telegram, Whatsapp,<br class="">
or Signal, and maybe Google docs, maybe some social media, and now,<br class="">
Chatter groups are available via Fonteva, working for some.<br class="">
Documentation/Website? The ISOC-NY A11ySIG plugged the gap by<br class="">
documenting the Accessibility Standing Group on their wiki, which the<br class="">
new leadership have ported over to a standalone site<br class="">
https://isocasg.org, now linked from the ISOC landing page.<br class="">
So questions:<br class="">
Where are the current guidelines? <br class="">
What follow up is being done on documentation of the first two year<br class="">
projects?<br class="">
Can SIGs now set up their own websites?<br class="">
Is sigleaders@isoc.org listserv still a thing? And, if not, is Chapter<br class="">
Dels an appropriate venue to discuss SIG matters?<br class="">
Looking forward to responses<br class="">
