Dear Cheryl,<br>
<br>
thank you for explaining the function of the Chapter Advisory
Council.<br>
<br>
I would add a few more thing: <br>
For information to others here, the Chapter Advisory Council's
summary description is on:
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://www.internetsociety.org/chapters/chapters-advisory-council/">https://www.internetsociety.org/chapters/chapters-advisory-council/</a><br>
<br>
Its function is defined by the Charter published on
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://www.internetsociety.org/chapters/chapters-advisory-council/charter/">https://www.internetsociety.org/chapters/chapters-advisory-council/charter/</a><br>
<br>
I should add, having been amongst the Chapters that proposed the
Chapter AC and drafted the Charter, that the Chapter AC is not an
exclusive channel for all conversations between the President &
CEO and Board of Trustees of the Internet Society and the Chapters.
Rather it serves as a facilitator to help with communication and
provide clarity over what Chapters are asking for when sometimes
there are mixed messages coming from Chapters. So it is an
additional channel - and a very strong one indeed as it is able to
work out a consensus amongst Chapters on major issues.<br>
<br>
As such, I hope that you and your Steering Committee have taken note
of the points which have been discussed here and are putting
together a working plan on how to resolve these with the President,
CEO and Board. Some significant concerns have been expressed, not by
isolated voices but by many Chapters on several points, so they
cannot be dropped in between the floorboards.<br>
<br>
Kindest regards,<br>
<br>
Olivier<br>

<br>
Thanks for your responses. Maybe we are not asking the
right questions to ourselves. What is the ISOC we
imagine, the one we need and what is possible to have ?
Somehow we got in the slow lane, how many meetings the
ChAC has in a year ? How long it takes the information
to get to the Board ? If able, how the board may ask for
some action and finally how long it takes some change to
happen ? That is something we have not figured out how
to overcome. We are getting speedy responses but that
keeps us always around the same place. That’s why we
need more strategy which needs to be figured out from
collective thinking. Is it lack of leadership ? I have
the feeling that if we do not reflect we wont be
building that future we would like to be at. <br>

Let’s keep the discussion. <br>

well. If it is in their interest,
ChAC could have a central role in
this. It seems interesting to also
elaborate a position document as a
result - if that sounds good to
others, I'd suggest having a
methodology similar to what
already happens in other summits
and working groups: most of the
substantial work (definitions of
common agendas and concerns, etc.)
would be made a few months before
the actual meeting (focusing on
finalizing and confirming the
text), so we could then present it
publicly.</p>

Members and Friends of ISOC,<br>
<br>
During the last months, we
have read many stories about
the tools we need to build a
better Internet for
everyone, not just the

policies that may future
shape the organizations and

are happening at a national

most is happening in the

call to our 120+ chapters to
collectively think about how
we can organize in the short
term a discussion about the
issues that we face to
fulfill our mission -global,

meeting organized and
conducted by Staff, not
within another
