I think you have things precisely backwards here, Veni. ISOC has a budget that "allows paying trustees" only to the extent that the money paid to trustees comes from somewhere else. A dollar we give to a trustee is a dollar we do not spend on the mission. I would invite the folks wanting to spend thousands of dollars on trustees to please indicate which parts of the Action Plan should be cut back.

--Richard

On Thu, Jan 6, 2022 at 11:36 AM Veni Markovski <veni@veni.com> wrote:

Well, it depends on the point of view...
Why not look at it from a different perspective - if ISOC pays $
150K (or 50K), that means that CISCO will have to explain to their
directors why they are paid so little.
Of course, that's a joke, but so is comparing a commercial public
company to an NGO. ISOC doesn't need to worry about selling
routers, and has a budget, which actually allows paying the
Trustees. However, of course, given the current configuration of
the BoT, one should not expect that this will happen ever - be
that in form of tens of thousands or even just $ 300 / year.
People should not be surprised, if the BoT comes with a counter
proposal - if someone wants to serve on the BoT, they should be
able to raise funds for ISOC.

Just for comparison here: Cisco directors are paid on the

in revenue in 2020, about 1000x ISOC, so if ISOC were to pay
trustees more than $300/yr, we would have some explaining to
do as to why we were paying our trustees proportionally more
than a for-profit company.
The amount I suggested was not a reflection on your
suggestion, or cynical. I came up with a number that was not
at a Wall Street level, biut a reflection of the
responsabilities of ISOC and therefore of those who are its
Trustees.
There is no reason not to and every reason to do so to enable
a broader group of people to run as Trustees. At a minimum, I
would suggest $150,000 a year.
since that was totally not my intention to compensate Trustees

the 50hr/month = $83/hr.
