Thank you, John.
Yes, I forgot to comment the "forcing", which was mentioned
yesterday by someone in this thread. Nobody is "forcing"
diversity, but ISOC is an international organization, with 100+
chapters and org members, who have hundreds of thousands (if not,
when combined, millions!) of employees around the world.
SURELY they could come with some candidates to be Trustees, who
are not necessarily Americans... And few years ago, when we
discussed this again, I suggested that ISOC reaches out to their
org members, and to the IETF, and tell them that this constant
proposal of Americans for the BoT, when they have enough diversity
- geographical, cultural, gender, etc. - could be changed
somewhat, to reflect the truly international nature of ISOC.
That is, of course, if ISOC indeed not only believes it's
international, but also provide evidence to prove it.

I fully agree with your analysis. Diversity is
crucial for ensuring that there is an international set of
inputs, that the Foundation not be American-centric.

Requiring diversity is not some sort of “forced”
policy. It is a basic value. I note the benefits of the ChAC’s
having a group of members from the regions and three at-large.

On the other the assumptions expressed by some in
this set of emails that somehow the Foundation being a US
non-profit makes it incapable of fulfilling its purposes shows
only that there is a lot of misinformation about what the
restrictions are and the freedom it has to act internationally.

in another list, maintained by ISOC, and dedicated to
ISOC's "governance reform", when I raised a question
about diversity, was confronted with questions that
diversity should not be "forced" (not sure who's
forcing it, since none of us, chapter leaders, has any
power to "force" anything on ISOC?!), but people
should be taken by their experience, expertise,
skills, etc. This, of course is true, the only problem
is that it's not the entire truth, as there are
experienced and skilled experts around the world; and
the org members, and the IETF have enough experts
among their members/employees/volunteers, who are not
necessarily only from North America...

It seems that lack of diversity is one problem, and
not understanding that it is a problem, is... another
problem.
I reacted to the same myself, and I think it's
something that is worth looking into. I would like to
draw attention to those trustee members appointed by
IETF, every single one is from the United States. <br
In am not looking for a perfect demographic
composition of the board, it is however important to
have different perspectives. I am reluctant to believe
that the current board of trustees represents such
diversity.
