<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=utf-8"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space;" class="">Dear Joyce,<div class="">Dear colleagues,</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">As you may have seen in the press Belgium had again troubles with air traffic, reason why I had to cancel my participation in the meeting in Madrid, which I really regret. Yesterday and today we had heavy debates in parliament as was now discovered the issues with security at the Brussels airport was known for at least one year. Even the EU commission made report to the Belgian government. And as I discovered during the past 2-3 weeks many issues and breaches of cybersecurity took place, I’ve requested a meeting with some people of the parliament in order to highlight and request urgency in proceeding to a hearing on the reasons why our CERT fails in performing as is required.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Thus, this demonstrates the way ISOC Belgium is following from nearby the issues related to security of our internet users. I will report back as soon as possible.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Again regretful being absent in Madrid.</div><div class=""><br class=""><div class="">

<div class="">A warm hello from the European Chapter Advocacy meeting in Madrid.</div>
<div class="">We are having 22 chapters in the room, a total of 25 people, including our newest Chapters in Europe, Talgat from Kazakstan and Bermet from Kyrgyzstan. </div>

<div class="">From ISOC Global Engagement team we have Raul Echeberria, Frederic Donck, Tommi Karttaavi and myself, and Konstantinos Komaitis joined us from the Public Policy team as well.</div>

<div class="">After a great welcome reception, where old and new friends met informally, the discussion started this morning.</div>
<div class="">The new format of the Chapter Workshops, focusing more on Policy issues has produced not only updates from the various Chapters on how they work with government, but also some very interesting local perspectives on Encryption and Blocking and Filtering. </div>

<div class="">We heard and shared some great examples on what to do, what not to do, and came up with some suggestions on how to address certain issues.</div>

<div class="">The discussions will not stop here and I’m sure we will continue the conversations online going forward.</div>

<div class="">I will let others who are here in Madrid chime in, but wanted to share the good vibe.</div>
