Raúl and all
Although I've been an ISOC Member since 2009, my Chapter was founded just over a year back. Our experience may not therefore be typical.

The support that we received so far--both financial and non-financial--has been overwhelmingly positive. The initial process of setting up the Chapter, which took a few months, was supported very well by Staff as well as leaders like Gihan. We were funded readily for our modest Chapter requirements ($3500) and for a specific event this year. We have also positive initial feedback for our India IG School proposal (largely in-kind, for travel of ISOC leaders as guest speakers). The Asia Pacific Chapter leaders' meet in 2015 was well-organized and useful in planning our programmes. Overall, we find the ISOC Ecosystem to be responsive, supportive and sufficient for our needs at this time.

We do understand that different chapters are in different stages of their life-cycle, and funding (and non-funding) requirements need to cater to everyone's needs.

We look forward to support from the Chapter Advisory Council, particularly in terms of framing policy that will nurture Chapters and provide them with leadership on critical areas of ISOC's engagement. We also hope that the CAC can address Chapter-level issues including burn-out of senior Chapter leaders.

Looking forward to a meaningful engagement with the CAC,

satish

--

Satish Babu

ISOC-TRV

On Mon, Apr 11, 2016 at 7:59 PM, Olga Cavalli <olgacavalli@gmail.com> wrote:

Dear Raúl,

many thanks for your message.

I agree with you that the Chapter Advisory Council will help addressing concerns and ideas of the chapters to the ISOC Board.

As a member of the Chapter Advisory Council´s Steering Committee I will do my best to make this happen.

Best regards

Olga

2016-04-11 11:04 GMT-03:00 Raul Echeberria <echeberria@isoc.org>:

Dear all:

In the last few days there have been interesting discussions in the chapter-delegates list.
My colleagues in the staff, myself and the Board, have expressed a lot of openness in considering different ideas that have been mentioned in the discussions.

We have now a new tool for catalyzing the participation of the chapters and for helping to synthesize the discussions. This is the Chapter Advisory Council and its Steering Committee.

We have to find a balance between the resources the organization makes available for supporting the work of its chapters, with the volunteer work that the chapters do by themselves in strengthening their organizations.

Things are not as bad as sometime they seem to be and they are neither as good that they don’t need any improvement. There is always a lot work to do.

I feel we are working in the right direction, and this is also what i have heard from many of our chapters leaders from different parts of the world. I’m very optimistic with what we can achieve. We need now positiveness and take advantage of the discussions for creating a good momentum.

Best,

Raúl
