<div class="">Dear all:</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">I am following this thread with a lot of attention and taking notes of what is said. </div>
<div class="">As Joyce has pointed out, we already spend good amount of resources on what we think are ways to support our chapters, but not necessarily are the things chapters need more. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">I’m very interested in having this discussion to see if we can agree of what we really need. Some things could be affordable, others not. But we will know that only if we understand better what are the needs. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">The new Chapter Advisory Council and its steering committee should be catalyzers in that discussion. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Let’s take advantage of this new structure. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Best regards, </div>

<div class="">Great points. </div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Based on my lengthy experience with organizations that have local chapters, I have long advocated that ISOC to be really effective should create a structure where Chapters would have local paid staff — both administrative and
<u class="">more importantly</u> ISOC-trained local organizers to do the higher level activities of supporting the Board and volunteers in carrying out local/country Chapter activities, recruiting new active volunteers, organizing events, raising local funds,
etc. Few volunteers are just sitting around with nothing to do, and so that have to work double-time or short-change their other business or interests.
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">I note that Chapters need to be accountable funding from ISOC should be linked with Chapters’ raising local funds — based upon what might be reasonable for the local economy. Otherwise the Chapter has no ownership and is just receiving a gift.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">We should recognize that it is not as if ISOC does not provide a wide range of support for Chapters, including training, grants for events, and funds for projects.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">I have proposed this proven model of how to create and maintain effective chapters to various Society leaders. Still waiting for at least a serious effort to see what this would look like and how it might work. A good project fir the new Chapter
Advisory Council.</div>

<div class="">Hello Sivasubramanian, all,<br class="">
<br class="">
It certainly is an option to provide some funding to a chapter. But I wonder if there might be greater value from resources provided by ISOC. In the Asia Pacific area, for example, it could be possible to add staff to the AP Regional Bureau, who's role is specifically
to support chapters in the region. So you could have multiple chapters receiving secretarial and treasury support, website maintenance, membership recruitment, further chapter development etc, and all could have consistency in terms of overarching ISOC principles,
strategy etc.<br class="">
<br class="">
I think the first step of freeing up the Chapter folks to concentrate on what they want to achieve, rather than remaining bogged down in administration, would be a great start.<br class="">
<br class="">
Cheers<br class="">

It would be of extreme benefit to the chapters if ISOC could provide<br class="">
administrative staff to undertake these functions.<br class="">
<br class="">
<br class="">
Keith,<br class="">
<br class="">
Would be good for Chapters to have administrative assistance, but<br class="">
Chapters might find it easier if it is in the form of a revolving budget<br class="">
for chapters to engage local staff, or to cover the costs of a local<br class="">
office.<br class="">
