Maybe the strategy could evolve towards a bulk funding model in time, but in the interests of taking smaller steps initially, perhaps the idea of having de-centralised regional or sub-regional support would be appropriate? It would seem more palatable to take this path, I would think, for the board and senior staff to be able to give serious consideration.
Hi Keith,

While it would be good for Chapters to receive administrative support from ISOC Staff, I tend to agree with Siva and Laurie too.

It would definitely help if regional chapters are provided some financial support, since there are few activities which if driven at the local level would be more effective. One such example is the Membership drive, which in most cases is a localized activity.
Hi Keith

This is just my POV. I have not run it by our board, but I have copied in my chair so that he can contradict me if he so chooses.

I recently met with Raj Singh and Naveed Haq. I was very impressed with them and their desire to assist us and other chapters.

However, I tend to think that Sivasubramanian is correct. I'm not sure that secretarial assistance, website support, membership recruitment etc. could effectively be provided "offshore".

I think some direct financial support to each chapter might be a better alternative.

Cheers
Hello Sivasubramanian, all,

It certainly is an option to provide some funding to a chapter. But I wonder if there might be greater value from resources provided by ISOC. In the Asia Pacific area, for example, it could be possible to add staff to the AP Regional Bureau, who's role is specifically to support chapters in the region. So you could have multiple chapters receiving secretarial and treasury support, website maintenance, membership recruitment, further chapter development etc, and all could have consistency in terms of overarching ISOC principles, strategy etc.

I think the first step of freeing up the Chapter folks to concentrate on what they want to achieve, rather than remaining bogged down in administration, would be a great start.

Cheers
Would be good for Chapters to have administrative assistance, but
Chapters might find it easier if it is in the form of a revolving budget
for chapters to engage local staff, or to cover the costs of a local
