Dear Jahangir,

Just to inform you that the short history of your chapter is not
the reason
you have been ignored regarding ION conference. The same happened
in Slovenia.

Our ISOC chapter has a 25 years of existence, but the ION
conference was organized with "go6.si" local "organization" (the
owner is
employed by ISOC in 360deploy team)) and the state educational
network ARNES.

However, we where informed and invited just a week before the
event to provide introductory
lecture and we did it. However, the event was not an ISOC event.

With regards,
Dear Jahangir,

thank you for sharing your concerns. This is not the first time I
hear of such problems. I think that the Chapter Advisory Council
should take this problem up. It appears that at present the
culture of communication has been lost by some parts of the ISOC
structure. It is indeed embarrassing for a local chapter to learn
about an event ISOC HQ is organising, in the way you have shared
with us. It is even more embarrassing when participants get in
touch with the local chapter to ask questions and the local
chapter knows nothing about the event.
As I said, this is something for the Chapter Advisory Council.

Kindest regards,

Olivier
is delighted to know that ISOC (global) is organizing an
ION event in Dhaka, Bangladesh in collaboration with
BdNOG. This is indeed a great initiative in raising
awareness, capacity building and, overall, carrying
forward ISOC's mission in Bangladesh.

We only learnt about this event from ISOC360 website
when one of our members visited http://www.internetsociety.org/deploy360/ion/bangladesh2016/.
However, since there have been no prior communication from
ISOC (global) with the chapter about this event we could
not respond to our members query about the chapter's role
in this event. As such, we felt bit uncomfortable. Our
chapter is fairly new (since 2011) and we are yet to learn
how ISOC (global) works with chapter in organizing local
events. Is it usual that the local chapter is not informed
before doing a local event with another local entity? we
thought it could have been a great way to strengthen a
very active chapter like ours if we were given the
opportunity to work in collaboration or even mentioned!.

We are concerned thinking that a very active and
highly enthusiastic local chapter has very little
value/importance to ISOC (global) in advancing ISOC's
mission in Bangladesh. Our members are also beginning to
wonder how well the local chapter is connected with ISOC
(global).
