We just installed a system that automatically scrapes the Chapter
applicants mails
(with a deep distrust in AMS) and automatically sends a mail that
leads applicants to a
customized application form of our members admin system.

There are a few data that users are obliged to fill on this form
(esp. if they did
not provide them to AMS or they are not in the mail) but they anyhow
have
to agree to the bylaws, the fee system and decide a few privacy
related
items.

So the only things our board will see are mostly serious and binding
applications
they have to decide on. So we avoid all the garbage that usually
lives on AMS.

If only "ISOC Chapter Membership Application Notification" mails
will
survive until there is a good and flexible subst for AMS I'll
probably
survive too. :)
