+1 Well Said. When I asked about the
differences between a SIG and a Chapter I was told that SIG's were
originally accorded the same status as Chapters, back in the early
days of ISOC. However, today a SIG is typically considered a
project of a chapter. So it seems that Alejandro has hit the nail
on its head that we should look at revising the definitions of
SIGs down the road. Since today we do not have this type of
structure and what we have is the ability to have non-geographic
chapter than I do not see any reason why we should not approve
this chapter

Hi all,
so here too: I totally support giving the InterPlantetary Networking experts and friends ISOC space. Their initiatives have proven visionary and have already yielded results for networks down on the surface of the Earth as well.
It looks more like we would need a structure for Special Interest Groups as other related organizations have.
But, given that the organizational structure that we do have is chapters, and it does allow non-geographic chapters, I think we should go on with this chapter and support it, and look at the possibility of SIGs further down the road. We are too fresh from a major Bylaws rewrite to start again.
Yours,
Alejandro Pisanty

Asunto: Re: [Chapter-delegates] Application to form an InterPlanetary Networking Chapter
Dear all,
We support the initiative as presented. However we share the same
concern as ISOC-DE. Some clarification
about the status, duties and actions of this Chapter vis a vis the
regional and national organization ISOC/chapter
status will be welcomed.
With regards,

ISOC.DE applauds the initiative with the greatest respect
towards the well renowned proponents. That said, we would
like to ask for a clarification regarding chapter eligibility.
While there is at least one prominent example of a non-geographic
chapter, the initiative appears to be more of a project nature
than a cross region ISOC member organisation. No doubt it
deserves support from ISOC, but we remain unconvinced that
a chapter is the best choice, strategically.
