success for our mission, The Internet Society must conduct diligent planning and
develop regular, early engagement of all our communities. It has been
expressed in the past that the Internet Society Staff should solicit more input
from Chapters and Members when considering long term strategic planning and
resource allocation. We in Chapter Development and Support
agree.</font></p><p align="left"><font face="Arial"><font color="#333333">While the new draft
guidelines on the Sphere Consultancy can assist a great deal on specific issues,
we believe that Staff need to use a more proactive and comprehensive approach
for learning from our Chapters and Members. To this end we have developed
a <b><u>new Chapter Survey</u></b></font></font><font color="#333333" face="Arial">
that will be going to you tomorrow. This survey will focus on Chapter
administration, management and leadership, resources, communications, and
project development and management. We are starting earlier than ever to
assure your input for the next planning cycle is heard, discussed and informs
the final result.</font></p><p align="left"><font color="#333333" face="Arial">More importantly, we will be
initiating a site where the survey results can be viewed along with a list of
action items and their priorities to which both staff and chapter leaders will
have committed, based on the survey results.</font></p><p align="left"><font color="#333333" face="Arial">This is not the start of something
new. It is the natural progress of a growing and dynamic organization
dedicated to community engagement. The Chapter Survey is available in
English, French and Spanish. Your participation through the entire process
is more than encouraged: it is necessary. </font></p><p align="left"><font color="#333333" face="Arial">I thank you all and look forward to
