We consider that cooperation and</div><div style="text-align: justify;">coordination among the European Chapters continues to be essential,</div><div style="text-align: justify;">particularly with regard to the European Union and other aspects of Internet</div><div style="text-align: justify;">governance in Europe.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Furthermore, ISOC-ECC is currently the only specifically user-oriented</div><div style="text-align: justify;">member of the European ccTLD Registry, <a href="http://EURid.eu">EURid.eu</a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">It was therefore with surprise and some dismay that we have learnt of the</div><div style="text-align: justify;">unilateral action of the ISOC Board of Trustees on 21 September 2012 to</div><div style="text-align: justify;">withdraw 'recognition' of ISOC-ECC and subsequently to require that</div><div style="text-align: justify;">ISOC-ECC cease to use the ISOC Logo and trademark. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This measure reflects an attitude on the part of the ISOC BoT and staff which is totally old-fashioned and</div><div style="text-align: justify;">inconsistent with the worldwide trend to democracy. Multistakeholderism which is in tune with </div><div style="text-align: justify;">the ostensible position of ISOC at the IGF and elsewhere applies not only to sectors (governments, </div><div style="text-align: justify;">business, cvil society, academia) but also to world regions including Europe. Democracy is one of the human rights. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">Top-down decisions without negotiation, consultation or even prior notice is quite inconsistent with the declared values of ISOC. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">The Internet Society and - for that matter the 'trademarks' - do not "belong" to the Trustees and staff.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In this context, whilst we welcome the presence of the European Bureau</div><div style="text-align: justify;">amongst us, we find that it is necessary to make quite clear that it is</div><div style="text-align: justify;">politically not acceptable for the Bureau or other ISOC staff to represent</div><div style="text-align: justify;">ISOC members in Europe without the explicit contribution and consent of our Chapters.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The European Chapters' Coordination should be maintained. There is no</div><div style="text-align: justify;">obstacle in ISOC for our Chapters to cooperate as we wish. The legal and</div><div style="text-align: justify;">financial structure of ECC is clearly not affected by this wayward and</div><div style="text-align: justify;">uncalled for decision by the Board of Trustees.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Executive Committee</div><div style="text-align: justify;">ISOC-Belgium-Wallonia</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Namur, 15 December 2012.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">On 05 Dec 2012, at 10:54, Chapter Support wrote:</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><blockquote type="cite"><div style="text-align: justify;">=================================================================================</div><div style="text-align: justify;">VERSION FRANCAISE CI-DESSOUS // VERSIÓN ESPAÑOLA ABAJO // DEUTSCHE VERSION UNTEN</div><div style="text-align: justify;">=================================================================================</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Dear colleagues, </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">We would like to hear from your Chapter!
