to be invited. Usually, other societies in such anniversaries are
promoting the first members that
established the Society and continued to be active in the Society
for 20 years as Members of Honour.

I heartily agree with Veni. I had been
championing the cause of the chapters going way back
to when ISOC's leadership did not seem to understand
the importance of the tole that chapters had to play,
sometimes having confront them at a public meeting
during an INET, which I did on several occasions over
the years. And I have written to Ted and others of
ISOC's leadership how I have been heartened by the
support chapters have been given recently. (I am part
of the Uganda ISOC chapter team.)

I'd say that if ISCO could pronounce that any
chapter members who can organize their own travel and
accommodation would be welcomed to INET as a delegate,
without having to pay a conference fee, no limitation
on numbers. I think it would go a long way towards
reinforcing chapter members' sense of belonging to the
ISOC family. ISOC could also assist those who require
a visa by offering to send a formal letter of
invitation where necessary.

- some light on this question.
I got an email that the invitation was sent to me as
a former Board of Trustees member. Needless to say,
this wasn't in the invitation, as you all saw it.
However, to respond to some of the off-the-list
emails -

I wrote to ISOC that I wouldn't mind joining the
INET in Geneva, if the invitation was going out
to all current members of ISOC, or at least
chapter presidents and trustees.
I also noted that this is important for me, because
I was a Trustee, elected by chapters, and I would
have liked to see this invitation as a sign that
ISOC finally has recognized the importance of the
chapters, which elected me, and not the importance
of the Trustees.

I know it may sound naive, but many of you here
remember the time, when we were struggling to
persuade ISOC that it has to work closely with the
chapters, and it should recognize the importance of
the chapters, and of the fact that they, the
chapters, bring legitimacy to the organization.

I hope you would agree with me that chapters should
have been given special treatment at this special
INET, with at least allowing their officers to
participate free at the INET (although, given the
tens of millions of USD that ISOC is spending, I
would argue that a free admission for everyone in
Geneva would be a better investment and would have
had a great return for the organization). After all,
travel and stay in Geneva for most of the countries
of the world is a pretty expensive adventure, but
the participation fee could be used instead for
airplane ticket or hotel stay for several nights.
ISOC must show more respect towards its chapters,
many of which made the .org deal possible by
gathering support from around the planet to prove
that ISOC will be a good guardian of the public
interest, if they are given the management of the
