<font face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif">Hi.<br>
<br>
I guess I will bring somewhat different note here - and I beg your
pardon if it is not according to the general good feelings on that
topic. <br>
<br>
I am really surprised to find out that the participation at INET
for ISOC members is paid! <br>
<br>
And is so expensive? <br>
<br>
I see that the participation at the global chapter workshop is
also included in the price. I was thinking to come for that one,
and due to conflicting schedule, to miss the INET itself, but with
the price tag, even if I didn't have conflict, I still would not
like to take the chance and pay for participation so early, when
it is not clear who will be the speakers. <br>
<br>
</font>ISOC could and should do much better, ESPECIALLY for its
members. With a budget in the tens of millions of USD, it just
doesn't make sense to charge for participation. Tell me that the
participation fee is not because the management of the conference is
being done outside of ISOC?<br>
<br>
Also, has someone thought that the price difference between members
of ISOC and non-members is CHF 250, and that means that in a way,
ISOC is saying that while joining ISOC is free, it actually costs
CHF 250? It is as if ISOC tells people that they could join ISOC for
free, but in fact it offers them CHF 250 to do so... <br>
<br>
Best,<br>

<pre wrap="">So, the INET for ISOC members is 350 CHF. If one adds two gala dinners
(obviously not compulsory) it makes 580 CHF.
For that amount of money I've had a free pass for expensive Swiss
Railways valid for a whole month countrywide. And 50% discount for
the remaining 11 months. You decide :)
There are some small issues with the registration:
* "staycation" question that really puzzled me.
* Company name is required (well, the price explains it)
* Business telephone number is required
* Email confirmation has some accessibility issues, it is
light gray on the white background and is delivered only
in HTML (no text/plain). So in my browser (using popular
Gmail service here) it looks like this:
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://akson.sgh.waw.pl/~saper/varia/inet2012-registration-confirmation.png">http://akson.sgh.waw.pl/~saper/varia/inet2012-registration-confirmation.png</a>
(Please note the message text is not highlighted)
"Show original" and "Message text garbled?" options in gmail
don't help since the display either Base64-encoded garbage or
HTML source garbage.
Don't get me wrong - I'm happy to see this live. Maybe there
is still a chance for some small adjustments though.
