Apologies for the slow reply in getting back to you on the suggestion below to consider one or two IETF fellowship awards to candidates recommended by the Chapter. I have now heard back from the Internet Learning Programmes (ILP) team at ISOC to whom I sent this email. They are very encouraged by the idea and the energy behind the suggestion. However as noted, the IETF fellowship process is an open application process where anyone can apply. It has its own timelines and decisions etc. and to integrate that with any kind of external process would actually be very difficult and would perhaps not give the outcomes you are after. As of today, each person can still apply.

However the good news is that ISOC is currently in the planning and development stages of a number of new IETF visibility and outreach programmes that would help improve not only awareness and understanding of the work of the IETF, but also increase participation from talented and interested individuals from around the world. (Remembering that participation is often more about the work on the mailing lists than it is face-to-face). It is hoped that these initiatives will also assist in helping to drive up interest in and membership of Chapters. As soon as the ILP team have a firmer platform for the new offerings (in 2011), we will reach out to the Chapter Delegates with our thoughts and requests for input.

If you have any follow up questions, you can contact the team at <ilp-team@isoc.org>.

I hope this helps,
Dear Anne

During our IPv6 events, we had a Chapter meeting at Chennai. Olivier and Sebastien Bachollet were present at the meeting.

One of the ideas discussed at our Chapter meeting on June 27 was on improving the participation of India's IT Technical Community in the work of the IETF. There was some interest expressed by some new members present to work on submitting RFCs. In this context, Olivier has suggested that we could have a local contest for technical community whereby participants would submit a Internet Technical Paper / Abstract; The best paper or two could be selected by a local process with evaluation help from IETF participants; The winning contestants could be formally recommended by the Chapter for the ISOC fellowship to IETF.

We do understand that IETF fellowships would have its own process, but is there a possibility that the fellowship committee would consider one or two Awards to candidates recommended by the Chapter after an open and transparent local process for recommendation?

( Our events during June 26 - 29 happened well. A summary report and a report for one of the sessions is posted at Chapter blog at pages:
Funnily enough I just noticed this on the ietf site today. I thought I hadn't seen it before!

Is it possible to d/l a HD version for use in our tv show?

BTW the ietf announcements list, for anyone (like myself until earlier today) who isn't on it, is at https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/ietf-announce
Dear Colleagues,

You may be interested in the short video below which describes the work of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to newcomers and novices. The Internet Society is the organisational home for the IETF and the Internet Architecture Board (IAB). The video is at : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqc8vd_jPpg&feature=player_embedded. It is also linked from : http://www.ietf.org/support.

One of the goals of the Internet Society is to broaden awareness of the work of the IETF. Including this video in presentations about your Chapter in the context of the work and mission of the Internet Society could be a way to reach new members, in particular students and youth. For this type of audience, the video may also go well with the Next Generation Leaders presentation available for Chapters at: http://www.isoc.org/isoc/chapters/guidelines/docs/ngl-toolkit-template.ppt (with speakers notes).

We hope this is useful.
Best wishes
