Subject: Re: [Chapter-delegates] ISOC meetings in San Francisco for ICANN 40
- Disability awareness for Chapters

Dear Jacek,

Thank you for your positive response. I'm glad to hear that there have
been some important Polish disability projects.

This current ISOC-AU project funded through the ISOC Community Grants
programme aims to increase awareness among Chapters about disability and
accessibility especially working towards mainstream Internet solutions
rather specialised solutions. It will mean that Chapters can run
seminars for their own members about disability and how to improve
accessibility, thus increasing awareness of the many issues involved.

The disability awareness module will be trialled at the Chapters meeting
at INET Sri Lanka in May. At the conclusion of the project, the
materials will be made available on the ISOC website for use by any Chapter.

During the time of the project, I'll be running some Webex conference
sessions to discuss the disability awareness module and to clarify any
questions. This is good for two reasons: to assist those who may not be
able to attend INET in Sri Lanka and to ensure that I am covering the
most important points based on the questions that I receive.

I'll be happy to discuss this project further with you and would be
delighted if the Polish Chapter would like to use the disability
awareness module.

Kind regards,
Dear Gunela,

This is a really interesting topic and I would be delighted to
organize similar event in our Polish Chapter. I remeber 8-9 years ago
we had similar discussion and even found an apted engineer who
constructed clever devices for disabled people allowing them better
net presence.

In the very early days of Polish Internet (mid 90's) we had even
so called IdN (Internet dla/for Niepelnosprawnych/Disabled) initiative
(it was based on example of my project Internet for Schools (IdS),
initiated and run by late Marek Car, an energetic animator of Internet
Community of Poland and I took part in several their undertakings,
related to the teleworking possibilities for disabled persons).

I would appreciate if you could link me with the persons involved
in current ISOC initiative.
Hi Sabrina,

I'd like to have an agenda item at the Chapters and Members meeting during
ICANN 40 on the ISOC Community Grant project: Disability Awareness for
Chapters.

This project is developing an awareness-raising tool for ISOC Chapters to
use to inform their membership and the broader Internet community of the
social benefit in assisting people with disabilities to use the Internet.
This will be done with ongoing collaboration of targeted Chapters in the
Asian region to set up a “disability training module” which can be used by
Chapters when organising events, seminars, conferences or training sessions.

The “disability training module” will be designed so that a session can be
organised by Chapters with limited or no experience in disability issues. It
will act as a resource by not only providing suitable content but also by
consideration of accessible venues, liaising with disability organisations
and obtaining local speakers with disabilities.

Looking forward to discussing it further on Sunday at the Chapters and
Members meeting at ICANN 40.
