One of our ISOC-Bulgaria Board members, Mitko Ganchev, published this on his facebook page, and pointed it as a relevant information:
http://verbophobia.blyon.com/mastercard-ddos/
and then he and the Bulgarian ccTLD registry engaged in an interesting conversation, which I find useful for our list. Daniel Kalchev, the .bg ccTLD manager, said that the online world is no different from the real world, and in real world, this actions are called an "uprising", and sometimes they may go into "war", if the scale is bigger. Mitko countered by saying that right now it's only a blockade of a main highway road (something popular in Greece, Bulgaria, France), but could go into an uprising mode. He further says something, which is consistent with my opinion - that the US Government should have let Wikileaks go quietly, without too much noise, and it would have died on its own.

I doubt that philosophical discussions with people bent on doing idiotic things like this will be very helpful. They tend to lump people into one of two sets: those that help them achieve their goals and those who don't. Like the Internet, they tend to roll their eyes and route around people they deem failures.
You might, however, point them too http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/08/AR2010120804038.html. Some people have to learn for themselves, and reading the usual outcome of such cases might at least give them the opportunity to make the mistake in a different way.
