I'll say in it's defense that drumbeat is not a 'militant civil<br>
society organisation' by any means, it's a worthy effort with much of<br>
the same aims as ISOC, and which we should make every effort to<br>
support it. It is very young, and still unfocused, but it could well<br>
be a valuable partner in Community Projects. But just because it's<br>
the pre-occupation of the current Chairman, and former Executive<br>
Director, of OWD is no reason that OWD should be consigned to the<br>
scrapheap.<br>
<br></blockquote><div>What is the nature of agreement (if any) between OWD and Drumbeat ? If OWD is folded into Drumbeat, is there any merger agreement that would legally prevent OneWebDay from continuing on its own?</div>
<div><br></div><div>If there is no such legal arrangement, from Chapters we can team up and carry it forward along its ORIGINAL plans. </div><div><br></div><div>You mentioned that there was a suggestion to rename it OneNetDay, if renaming is desirable, why not "Internet Day?"</div>
<div><br></div><div>Isoc provided initial funds. Now if Chapters are to 'inherit' OWD, it may not be a bad idea to apply for a joint community grant. + We can think of funds from Ford, Word Press and brainstorm for more donors. We can also make some joint efforts such as a fresh social networking portel, co-developed collaboratively with participation from those who are good at web development.</div>
<div><br></div><div>( I am setting up a small Web Development division, which will have skillful resources to be committed to such an exercise. <a href="http://www.isolatednetworks.com">http://www.isolatednetworks.com</a> ) At Chennai we have a few more members who are talented in WebDevelopment who can team up with you and others from elsewhere to get OWD re-launched on a more impressive scale.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Shiva.</div><div><br></div><div>Sivasubramanian Muthusamy </div><div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex;">
A very attractive OWD sponsor could be the WordPress Foundation, who<br>
just scored $28,000 off the the recent WordCamp NYC<br>
<a href="http://2009.newyork.wordcamp.org/2010/01/23/show-me-the-money/" target="_blank">http://2009.newyork.wordcamp.org/2010/01/23/show-me-the-money/</a><br>
<br>
They could sponsor a full-on multi-user buddypress development for OneWebDay.<br>
<br>
One suggestion punted out is that we just ignore the old organization<br>
and work on OneNetDay - that would keep the techie quibblers quiet<br>
too!<br>
