Sorry Odile - Gerard congratulations!

Alejandro, thanks for the info. The article about China looks like that's their solution to the Who Is problem. With this comment I am not implying that I am in accord with them.

Indeed, It would be very interesting to know from our friends in Spain what they thing about their experiences and or comments about the IDénum proposal.

Eduardo Diaz
ISOC-Puerto Rico

Eduardo, (and Odile and Gerard - congratulations, Gerard),

very interesting? Something like http://www.pcworld.com/article/190013/china_further_tightens_rules_for_domain_name_owners.html is nothing more than "interesting"?

Please exert due diligence.

1. The IDénum proposal is tantamount to a national electronic identity card. This is being tested in some countries (Spain among them.) It would be worthwhile to discuss with, among others, the ISOC members in chapters in Spain who are on this very same list.

2. "Chip and PIN" is used for credit cards in many European countries. It has been said to fail (maybe an exaggeration, but surely a call of alarm) recently. You may get to some news about this reading http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/newsnight/susanwatts/2010/02/new_flaws_in_chip_and_pin_syst.html?s=tp among many other pieces. It may be a bit weak for such general use over the Internet if it is already a bit weak for dedicated, telephone linkages like many credit-card terminals are hooked up to.

As I've heard say (and warmly retweeted!), "Google before you tweet is the new think before you speak". We have an obligation to provide information-based assistance among us.

(So, if I'm wrong, or insufficiently informed, please do let me know urgently!)

Yours,
Congratulations on being elected president of the Isoc France Chair. We in
Puerto Rico do not have anything like what your government is looking to do
in France. However, we would like to see the final outcome on this. It seem
to us to be a very interesting idea.
Sent on behalf of Gérard Dantec, recently elected Isoc France Chair who
will be subscribed to the list very shortly! Odile

Hello

I'm Gerard Dantec, recently elected president of the French chapter. I have
a question for the list.

The French Minister responsible for development of the digital economy
(Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet) opens a consultation and asks the French
chapter of ISOC to participate. The subject is "IDéNum": new label for easy
and secure access to various online services.

To authenticate, the user must connect a physical medium (mobile phone,
smart card, USB or MP3) containing a certificate, and dial a PIN.

Do you have similar experiences in your country, and if so, can you share
information with us i.e achievements, problems that aroused, etc...

This way, the French chapter can submit to the Minister a statement of
projects for which the chapters of ISOC provide standby or in which they are
directly or indirectly involved

Best regards
