Jacek,
as I was expecting, and as it should be.

Margaret,
why would I call you? What were we going to discuss? I have stated my
intentions to the chapters, who proposed me, not to the NomCom, or the
ISOC Board.
It's the right of the NomCom to select the candidates that fit ISOC
best.
But I have a duty to respond to the people who ask me if I had run. And
let's not forget, that I have duty towards chapters as a chapter
president, and as a member of the ECC, to try to do whatever I can for
them.
This has been a long tradition on the ISOC board - first to tell us that
we don't represent chapters to the Board, then to argue why didn't we
inform the chapters about certain decisions.
ISOC needs a working, better defined, policy with chapters. I have been
proposing this for quite a while.
When someone from chapters-delegates says something not so nice in the
ears of some of the ISOC HQ people, they are immediately being attacked
as sending inflammatory, rude, etc. messages. And let's not forget what
opinions on the chapters we've heard, too. Well, I have been loyal to the
ISOC Board, but I can't be non-loyal to the chapters. Because if tomorrow
PIR will stop pouring money into ISOC, ISOC might disappear,
but the chapters will remain, and we still need to make sure they are
spreading the knowledge about the Internet in their countries, fight for
freedom of access to information, etc.

The Nominations Committee is
comprised of ten people who made a joint decision regarding who we would
place on the ISOC ballots, and the nature and content of our
deliberations are confidential. So, I am sorry, but I really can't
answer this question. I don't know exactly which qualifications or
attributes of the selected candidates were most compelling to each
Nominations Committee member, and I do not feel that it would be
appropriate to comment on the specific discussions regarding any one
candidate.

I agree, and I hope my chapter presidents colleagues would also agree.
May be I will propose for next year more open and transparent process,
and definitely we need a change in by-laws with respect to
chapters' candidates.
