Dear colleagues,
Since many of you already asked me questions like: "Where are you on
the nominees list ?", "Did you put in your nomination for
reelection to the Board?", "Didn't you say you were a
candidate!?" and so on, here's why you didn't see my name in the
candidates list:

I was nominated by ISOC - Puerto Rico. It was Ramon Morales, who sent my
nomination, and I've done my homework after that - I've accepted
it, sent my position, found two references. I was interviewed on the
phone by the Nomination Committee (although some of the suggestions I got
from you are that it was acting as a Selection, not a Nomination
Committee:-), a procedure which, I was explained, is because there were
many candidates. And no, I don't know how many.

The final word from Margaret is that I am not in the slate, as it's
defined by her Committee.

I was actually satisfied to read between her lines, that thanks also to
my work, especially in the last year, when the main push of ISOC was made
towards open and transperant public policy process with full involvement
of chapters... that "the visibility and importance of the work of
the Internet Society" has increased, as quoted below. I think we all
- active chapters and chapters-delegates - have contributed in that
effort. Fact is that chapters in 2005 will have for the first time a
dedicated budget for projects, and ISOC will be working on the political
part of the public policy. Of course, more needs to be done if we want to
make sure that the PIR .org funding is being used as promised in the bid
process - for public policy.

I could run on petition, as it states in the bylaws, but I
need to get petition first by seven percents of the chapters. You can
read more at

http://www.isoc.org/members/vote/2005election/index.shtml. While this
is not a problem, I would not run for the end in itself. I don't want to
fail the chapters who nominated me and thus showed support for the policy
of opening ISOC towards working with chapters, and I think we all have to
decide whether I should run. But this needs to be in a
coordinated manner, with preliminary written agenda as to what we want
from ISOC, what is the time framework for achieving this, etc., etc.

Some of you know I have been busy recently with different project on
Internet Governance, Cybersecurity and Free and Open Source Software. I
hope that some of these projects may include chapters that are interested
in starting something new, and perhaps we should talk about it after the
ICANN meeting is over (April 8th).

Dear Veni,

I am writing to inform you about the slate of candidates for election to
the Internet Society's Board of Trustees in 2005. The Nominations
Committee was fortunate to receive a very large number of well-qualified
candidates. We consider it a positive sign about the visibility and
importance of the work of the Internet Society that so many
well-qualified candidates were interested in serving on the ISOC Board of
Trustees.

I regret to inform you that you have not been selected as one of the
candidates. We are grateful for your interest and wish you success in
your future endeavors. As mentioned, the field from which we had to draw
was large and very qualified and this result is in no way intended to be
a negative comment on your qualifications.

The candidates to stand for election are as follows:

I appreciate your willingness to serve ISOC in this way, and I hope that
we will have opportunities to work together on ISOC projects in the
future.
